Visiting artists at Ripponlea!

This week we welcome Tom Gerrard our visiting artist to classes in year 3-6. Tom is working with students to develop a series of drawings which students will use as inspiration for printmaking in coming weeks. Big thank you to Tom for making time in his busy schedule to work with us at Ripponlea.

Art Room Happenings!

Amazing Arcimboldo portraits by Betty and Freya in year 1&2!

This is Spencer in year 6 and his life size tape sculpture. He has used tape to create a life size figure! Super work.

Congratulations to Maude, who’s work was exhibited at Glen Eira City Council art gallery as part of the Glen Eira Youth Art Exhibition. She created a photographic collage containing her Grandmother and objects that are representative of her family heritage.

Titled: Pre Teen Angst Turned to Family Love, Maude says about her work; “Recently my Grandmother sold the holiday home I get up in and I was quite upset. I channelled that emotion in an artwork to represent my family.”

This work was self directed by Maude who initiated the entry into this exhibition. The exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for young artists to make work with purpose and to be apart of a real life exhibition. Let’s try to get more entries in 2019!

‘Art loves Italian’ Food Unit

Last term we had great fun exploring how “Art loves Italian” through a study of food in years 1-4!

Year 1&2 looked at Italian artist Arcimboldo while learning about the fundamentals of drawing a face such as where the eyes, nose and mouth should be drawn.

Importantly, when it came to painting, students learnt basic brush skills remembering to “paint like a ballerina.” Student’s are finishing their pieces this week and next before we move onto an exciting term of FRIDA KAHLO studies!

Year 3&4 finished their magnificent pizza plushies with a celebratory lesson making their own pita pizzas. Some exceptional results from the students as they learnt basic stitching skills and how to follow a pattern! Bellissimo.
