All The Eternal Love (2014) by Yayoi Kusama is the inspiration for these creative and colourful collages made by year 5&6.

 

Learning Intentions:

To learn about the artwork of Yayoi Kusama.

To learn how to plan for an artwork prior to making the artwork.

To learn to respond to an art work using the correct language.

To learn about the elements colour, line and shape.

To learn about making patterns.

To learn a collage technique.

Success Criteria:

Create an artwork using All the Eternal Love as inspiration. The artwork should show use of organic shapes.

A plan for art making that shows how the artwork will be created.

An investigation of All the Eternal Love which uses appropriate art language.

“Yayoi Kusama’s dots were a way of thinking about the world among the stars, as one dot among millions of others. They were her way of thinking about infinity.”

Foundation students have also been hard at work. They were introduced to art making and creative thinking through the study of “The Dot” and “Ish” by Peter Reynolds. These texts have formed the basis of discussion and development of creative thinking and creative ideas. Students have had an experience with a range of materials and techniques whilst learning the concept of ‘making a mark.’ You can see their delightfully honest and gorgeous results in the foyer outside the office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It’s been an exciting and ‘dotty’ start to the year in the art room. Students in grades 1-6 have been exposed to the inspiring work of contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Arguably one of the most successful living contemporary female artists, her work is unique and inspiring. We have studied her obsession with dots with many students adopting Kusama’s style to create their own interpretations and works of art.

Grade 1&2s have begun the creation of their own “Infinity Dot Wall” whilst learning about collage. The have collaged the letters of their name using Kusama as their inspiration.

 

Grade 3&4’s have marveled at the famous pumpkins creating their own version of the Yayoi Kusama pumpkins.

In grade 5&6 we are investigating Kusama’s more recent works from the “My Eternal Soul” series. The task was to create a multi-layered collage inspired by the works. Some incredible artists even used stop motion animation to capture their collage in progress.
